Geachte heren,

Mag ik me even voorstellen aan u allen op de heer Taselaar na, die ik al in 2006 heb aangeschreven? Mijn naam is Richard Schoot en ik schrijf over politiek, godsdienst en media voor mijn website www.ibcpp.org.uk Het 'ibcpp' staat voor: Initiative for the British Christian Patriotic Party.

Ik neem de vrijheid uw aandacht te vragen voor het volgende. Op 9 oktober jl. werd in het BBC-programma The Andrew Marr Show de Britse minister van defensie Sir Michael Fallon geïnterviewd. In dat interview uitte hij een aantal beschuldigingen richting Rusland, waaronder deze, en ik citeer hem nu, "they [de Russen] even tried to interfere on the Dutch referendum on the Ukraine association agreement". Ook de Britse krant The Sun plaatste dit citaat, in het artikel 'Party to the slaughter' van 9 oktober jl.

De defensieminister van een bondgenoot van Nederland - Groot-Brittannië - heeft dus kennelijk bewijs in handen waaruit blijkt dat een mogendheid buiten dat bondgenootschap - Rusland - heeft getracht de politieke besluitvorming in ons land te verstoren of te verhinderen.

Ik wil u daarom het volgende vragen:

1) Hebt u kennis genomen van de genoemde opmerking van minister Fallon?

2) Zo ja, dan moet u het maar zeggen als ik me vergis, maar bij mijn weten heeft uw TV-programma of krant helemaal geen aandacht besteed aan deze door minister Fallon geuite beschuldiging. Waarom niet? Dit betreft toch een ernstige zaak waarover uw kijkers of lezers goed geïnformeerd moeten worden? Mag ik voorstellen dat u hierover minister van defensie mevrouw Hennis gaat bevragen, en leden van de Tweede Kamer? Of, beter nog: de Britse minister zelf?

Ik heb op mijn website voor het eerst op 16 oktober jl. over deze zaak geschreven.

Iemand van De Volkskrant heeft gereageerd
Op 30 december kreeg ik een e-mail van de assistent van de hoofdredacteur. Ik heb geantwoord dat ik deze e-mail niet zal publiceren en dat ik alleen een reactie van de aangeschreven hoofdredacteur, de heer Remarque, zal beschouwen als de reactie van De Volkskrant op mijn internetbrief. Wil hij niet reageren, zo sloot ik af, dan zal ik dat uiteraard als een gegeven moeten aanvaarden. (3 januari 2017)

Dear Sirs,

May I introduce myself to you all except for Mr Taselaar, whom I already wrote to in 2006? My name is Richard Schoot and I'm writing about politics, religion and media on my website www.ibcpp.org.uk The 'ibcpp' stands for 'Initiative for the British Christian Patriotic Party'.

I'm taking the liberty to ask your attention for the following. On October the 9th, Britain's Secretary of State for Defence, Sir Michael Fallon MP, was interviewed in the BBC's The Andrew Marr Show. In that interview, he made several accusations against Russia, among which, and I quote: "They (the Russians) even tried to interfere on the Dutch referendum on the Ukraine association agreement". British newspaper The Sun also published this quote, in the article 'Party to the slaughter' of October the 9th.

Apparently, the minister of defence of an ally of The Netherlands - Great Britain - has proof that a power outside of that alliance - Russia - was trying to disturb or to obstruct the political decision-making in our country.

I would therefore like to ask you:

1) Have you taken notice of the aforementioned remark of minister Fallon?

2) If so, please correct me if I'm wrong, but to the best of my knowledge your TV programme or newspaper hasn't paid any attention to this accusation of his. Why not? This is a serious matter your viewers or readers should be well informed about, isn't it? May I propose you put some questions about this to our minister of defence, and to members of parliament? Or, better still, to the British minister himself?

On October the 16th, I wrote about this issue on my website for the first time.

Someone of De Volkskrant has reacted
On December the 30th, I received an e-mail from the assistant to the chief editor. I replied that I won't publicize this e-mail and that I will only regard a reaction of the adressed chief editor, Mr Remarque, as the reaction of De Volkskrant to my internet letter. If he does not want to respond, I concluded, I would of course have to accept that as a given. (3rd January 2017)
